Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to USAToday that New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which debuted at E3 two weeks ago, will be the first of many products to include his new "demo play" feature. Having been rumored for some time, "demo play" allows the player to pause the game, select an option, and have the game essentially play itself to get past a tricky or difficult section.
In an exclusive interview with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary game designer confirmed this optional feature called "demo play" (tentative name) is something the development team has been working on.

"In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, if a player is experiencing an area of difficulty, this will allow them to clear troubled areas and take over when they're ready" confirmed Miyamoto, through his translator. "And yes, we're looking into this for future games, too" Miyamoto says.
While hardcore gamers will likely scoff at this feature, Nintendo's continued commitment to expanding the gaming audience to include players that may have never before played a videogame is evident.

Bryn says: This isn't a surprise at all, and in fact, while some of the core audience might snub such an option, it actually makes a lot of sense as far as I'm concerned.

Younger players or new gamers that have never played videogames before could benefit greatly from the ability to overcome the more challenging parts of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. As for the rest of us, well, we can simply ignore that it exists.
